Descriptions of AAPS Executive PositionsPresident - The AAPS President presides over all meetings of the Association, serves as an ex-officio member of all AAPS committees, appoints committees as prescribed in the By-Laws, and in the case of incapacity of elected officers and councilors, makes appointments with the advice and consent of the Executive Committee to fill vacancies until the next election. The President is one of six members of the Executive Committee which is responsible for governing the Association. The Executive Committee typically meets once a year in conjunction with the AAPS annual meeting which is usually held in conjunction with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s annual convention. The AAPS President serves a two year term. Vice President - The Vice-President shall serve as President in the event of incapacity of the President. The Vice-President is one of six members of the Executive Committee which is responsible for governing the Association. The Executive Committee typically meets once a year in conjunction with the AAPS annual meeting which is typically held in conjunction with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s annual convention. The AAPS Vice President serves a two-year term and ascends to the Presidency of the Association at the completion of said term. Executive Secretary - The Executive Secretary is the chief administrative officer of the Association. In this capacity she/he keeps an accurate and current list of all AAPS members; notifies the membership of the date, time and place of all Association meetings and is responsible for conducting all Association elections. This officer is the chief fiscal officer of the Association and reports annually to the membership on the finances of the Association. Including her/his membership to the Executive Committee, the Executive Secretary serves as ex officio member of all other committees and boards of the Association. Councilors - The three Councilors of the Association are members of the Executive Committee and participate in the governing of the Association. All Councilors participate in the Executive Committee activities and typically meets once a year in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the Association. AAPS Councilors serve a three year term without the ability to be re-elected. Although not specifically regulated by the Associations Constitution and/or By-Laws, Councilors frequently ascend into the Vice Presidency. Nominating Committee - The Nominating Committee consists of three members, one of them being elected each year to serve for three years. The member whose term is next to expire, acts as the chairperson of this committee. The Nominating Committee nominates individuals for each the Association’s officer’s, councilor’s, and committee member’s positions that are about to be vacated and advances these names to the Executive Secretary in time for elections to be held on an annual basis. Professioanl Meetings Committee - The Professional Meetings Committee consists of six members, including a chairperson, appointed by the President with the approval of the Executive Committee. Three persons are appointed each year to serve for a period of two years. This Committee recommends to the Executive Committee general policies governing the conduct of the Association’s professional meetings. The Committee also serve as a program committee and is responsible the content (papers/presentations) of the meetings.
